A Dominant Intellectual Property Position For Greater Environmental Protection
Water Standard Company (WSC) has a dominant intellectual property position for vessel-based mass desalination that is unmatched in the industry.

We have a First to File position in a broad range of primary innovations – which is a significant barrier to entry for any competitor. To date, WSC holds more then 10 patents and 10 registered patents, and has at least 90 pending patent applications in almost as many countries.

Our patent portfolio currently targets most countries throughout the world, including those in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

Developed to preserve and protect marine life and the ocean ecology, our technology includes:
  • Salinity Plume Deterrent System. This mixes concentrate with ambient seawater, dramatically reducing the salinity and keeping the exit water the same temperature as the sea surface to minimize impact on marine life.
  • Multi-Port Dispersion System. A series of ports along the bottom of the vessel returns discharged water deeper into the ocean. This dilutes it further, keeps temperatures at original levels, and ensures it never reaches depths that could adversely affect organisms that are food sources for fish. Additionally, the system can be adjusted depending on ocean conditions.
  • Multi-Depth Intake Anti-Entrapment System. This uses a telescoping intake pipe that draws water from depths that sunlight can't penetrate – significantly reducing impact on sea life. The bottom of the pipe is equipped with an Environmental Protection Agency-approved intake wellscreen that minimizes entrapment of marine life.
What are the advantages of sea-based desalination?
There are a number of benefits. It is environmentally responsible and significantly mitigates the environmental impact on the ocean, marine life, coastlines and air. It can produce its own energy, and so does not have to co-locate near a power plant. And it can have a reduced carbon footprint.
