WATER STANDARD's
Seawater Desalination Vessel (SDV) adapts proven processes that
military and cruise ships have used for years and combines them
with proprietary technologies to offer a reliable and environmentally
responsible alternative.
The SDV is a vessel with on-board desalination technology that can produce up to 75 million gallons per day (mgd) or 300,000 cubic meters (m³/d) of drinking water daily. WATER STANDARD converts existing vessels, targeting the tanker market. Ship sizes are dependant on produced water volumes and can range from a 20,000 DWT vessel (Handysize) up to a 100,000 DWT (Aframax). In some situations, the WATER STANDARD vessel-based desalination technology can be designed for barges.
The SDV will be located offshore typically where there is better
quality water with less suspended solids, reducing the pre-treatment
cost associated with power, chemicals, and waste disposal. Seawater
is drawn through the Intake Water System using low-velocity pumps,
reducing the impact on sea life. The intake is equipped with a passive
screen that minimizes entrainment and entrapment. Discharge water
is diffused back into the ocean through the Discharge Water System
with corresponding control systems. The discharge water is diffused
back into the ocean meeting the most stringent environmental discharge
requirements of temperature and salinity.
These processes have minimal impact on marine life, and were developed with an emphasis on preserving the ocean's ecological balance.
Additionally, the SDV offers numerous other benefits that differentiate it from land-based desalination. For more on this,
